Kashtan 40th Anniversary Celebration

Kashtan students, alumni, and supporters gathered together at St. Josaphat Astrodome on November 16, 2019, to celebrate Kashtan’s 40th anniversary with food, drink, and of course, dance. At the start of dinner, Kashtan’s sister organization Zorya sang “Mnohaya Lita” to express their congratulations, and Artistic Director Markian Komichak gave a rousing and heartfelt speech about his years of work. Kicking off the zabava, students and alumni alike performed an organized kolomejka as the band “Zapovid” from Toronto, Canada filled the air with their upbeat music.

Guests of the 40th-anniversary event not only celebrated with food and dance but also reminisced and looked towards the future with the help of many displays that were set up. Attendees browsed the wide array of newspaper articles, vintage concert posters, and new and vintage costumes on display. They also posed for photos at the “Studio 40” barre and mirror that was set up.
