Closing Ceremony of the “Hromada” Festival in Lviv (Kashtan in Ukraine: Part 7)

The Closing Ceremony of the “Hromada” Festival took place on August 5, 1990.

Just like in the Opening Ceremony, Kashtan marched into the Ukraina Stadium with all of the other international participants. Our dancers performed “Hopak” one final time, and were immediately declared winners of the “Grand Prix” award! This is where we received the glass bulava (mace) that is now traditionally passed down to every active Kashtan male dancer who weds.

After the ceremony, Kashtan attended a farewell reception with the Yunist Ensemble. A good time was had by all, especially when led in song by Mr. Mukha! You will see the traditional toast “Budmo!” which is another tradition brought back from the trip.
